Customised Harley Davidson

Written by Weerg staff | Jul 10, 2024

The collaboration between Weerg and BeFuel exemplifies how the innovative MJF 3D printing technology can revolutionise and adapt to various sectors, including the motorcycle industry. This partnership focused on the creation of the tail section of a customised Harley-Davidson, a key component for both the aesthetics and functionality of the bike.

The project

BeFuel decided to customise a Harley-Davidson Panarace for the annual European H.O.G. event in Senigallia, held for the first time in Italy. BeFuel aimed for the highest quality result but needed to complete the tail section in an extremely short timeframe to focus on the bike's finishing touches before the event. For this reason, they turned to Weerg, renowned for its ability to produce complex, high-quality parts in record time.

Weerg manufactured the piece using Multi Jet Fusion powder 3D printing, utilising the largest machine park of its kind in the world. This approach achieved an unprecedented level of precision and detail, crucial for a component that must integrate seamlessly with the bike. 3D printing surpassed the limitations of traditional methods, enabling the creation of complex and customised geometries.

For the choice of material, BeFuel consulted with Weerg's highly specialised technicians. After a thorough analysis of the project's specific requirements, Nylon PA11 was recommended. This material was chosen for its excellent mechanical properties and flexibility, making it particularly suitable for components subject to continuous stress and vibrations. Compared to Nylon PA12, PA11 offers greater impact resistance and deformation resilience.

Using Nylon PA11 allowed BeFuel to create a tail section that was not only highly functional but also aesthetically pleasing. The material's flexibility ensures that the component can adapt to various usage conditions while maintaining an impeccable appearance over time. The ability to rapidly iterate the design through 3D printing enabled a perfect balance between form and function.

The success of this collaboration highlights the potential of 3D printing to revolutionise the motorcycle industry. Thanks to Weerg and Nylon PA11, BeFuel succeeded in creating a customised Harley-Davidson Panarace that represents the perfect blend of technological innovation and advanced design. This project paves the way for future collaborations and further innovations, demonstrating that the right choice of materials and advanced technologies can make a significant difference.

CONCLUSION

The partnership between Weerg and BeFuel is an example of how 3D printing technology can transform the development and production process in the motorcycle sector. Using Nylon PA11, it was possible to achieve a final product that combines flexibility, strength, and sustainability while offering an innovative and customised design. This collaboration not only underscores the potential of 3D printing but also the importance of selecting the right materials for each application.
